I’m originally from the east coast of the US and grew up a
bit abroad. Starting in university, I began to travel and work in other
countries using my passions and training to do so; these have primarily been in the areas of art, drama, and education. I have another blog that
documents an irregular stream of my artistic output.
I have always been physically active and interested in a
variety of sports. I grew up camping and hiking and doing things like Outward
Bound and later leading Duke of Ed. Watching stuff like Bear
Grylls and imagining a potential zombie apocalypse were always interesting before they got a bit too hip to be fully palatable. I have a half-assed Bug Out Bag in my closet that usually just gets
pilfered for gear and emergency rations when I go camping. I’m also the guy on the
soccer team with a first aid kit handy who gets excited to treat a sprain (and
maybe even looks forward to it). Although not quite a master of anything, I’m
quite good or at least competent in a number of areas.

Leading a Duke of Ed hike in Sydney, 2011. |
In 2010, I got a bit more serious about mountain biking, which is to say I spent more on a bike than my car at the time was worth. I began to progress as a cross-country rider and then moved into more aggressive trail and light freeriding while living in Sydney. Because I was teaching in Australia, I had massive school breaks in which to travel and had a very pivotal experience on one of these while riding for three weeks in northern Thailand. Mountain biking and all of its related areas (bike maintenance and building, communal bike shops, trail building, industry developments and manufacturing processes, global culture, etc.) have remained a great joy and motivation in my life.

3-Ring Circus. Sydney, 2012. |
I intended to put this site together in 2013, when I quit my job in Sydney, sold almost everything I owned, and left with my Yeti SB95, rear rack, and a CamelBak to pedal through Cambodia for the first time. Unfortunately, I somehow lost all my documents in the transition and put the blog on hold. Hopefully now it might be of use (or interest) to others like me.
